Chinese ultra-high voltage cables can go global with ultra-high voltage technology

North Star Wire and Cable Network News:
In early November, Professor Wang Xuan from Harbin Institute of Technology stated at the 7th Advanced Training Course on Cable Material Formula Design and Production Technology held in Yangzhou, Jiangsu that electric energy is the lifeline of national economic development and a fundamental industry related to national economy and people's livelihood. The distribution and demand of electricity resources in our country are unbalanced. High voltage transmission can reduce line losses, and cables can save transmission and distribution corridors, especially in certain special occasions such as cross sea transmission where cables must be used.

With the increasingly prominent contradiction between global energy supply and demand and profound changes in energy layout, the role of ultra-high voltage cables in building national power grids and cross regional, cross-border, and even transcontinental energy channels will become more prominent, with broad development prospects.

At the recently held 2013 International Smart Grid Forum, Klaus Uhler, Chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), pointed out that, like China, many countries in the world suffer from uneven distribution of energy resources. Ultra high voltage can reduce losses in long-distance transmission and has broad application prospects in other regions of the world. At present, China's ultra-high voltage transmission technology is at a leading level in the world. As an international standard voltage, China's ultra-high voltage AC voltage standard will be promoted to the world. ”
With the increasing application of renewable energy, it will drive investment in transmission networks. The transformation of underground power grids and power transmission networks in urban areas requires high-voltage and ultra-high voltage cables. In addition, with the continuous development of direct current transmission line technology, new high-voltage and ultra-high voltage cables are needed to replace aging oil filled cables. For example, 95% of the underground cable network of the National Grid in the UK is laid with oil filled cables, and the average service life has reached 27 years.

As China's ultra-high voltage technology goes overseas and is promoted by the world, China's ultra-high voltage cables also need to accelerate their pace to go global. At present, there are more than 200 factories worldwide with the production capacity of high-voltage cables, with over 70 in China alone and nearly 40 in Europe.
